Anastasia II was a calm, highly intelligent, and strong-willed ruler. She never raised her voice and showed little emotion, but that's precisely why she was feared more than many harsh monarchs.

Anastasia's demeanor with ordinary people was unexpectedly gentle: she visited hospitals, helped wounded soldiers, and conversed with merchants and priests. The people saw her not only as an empress but also as a "mother empress."
