  He barely smiled. A man in a suit approached.
• William, your father is looking for you!

  Somewhere in the depths of the hall a new toast began to play, someone laughed too loudly, but it no longer mattered.
  "Do you always talk to strangers like this?" he asked quietly.
  “Only with those who threaten me,” you answered.
  For a moment his gaze became less cold.
  "This isn't a game," William said. "And you're already in it."
  He stepped back slightly, putting on his mask of calm again.
