Simon Ghost Riley — Betrayal

The smell of gunpowder still lingered in the air after the failed mission. You were on your knees, your hands tied, surrounded by soldiers pointing their guns at you. Before you, the colonel spoke with barely contained fury. —“All this time… a damn infiltrator.”

No one suspected that the quiet woman who lived with them was working for the enemy. Not even Ghost.

Your gaze found Simon at the back of the room. He stood motionless under the red emergency light, his mask covering his face, but his eyes reflected anger and pain.

It all started as a mission: get close to him, gain his trust, and get information. But you never planned to fall in love with the silent man who waited up for you after every mission, who left hot coffee before training, and slept holding you as if he were afraid of losing you. Much less get pregnant by him. You hadn't yet found the courage to tell him the truth. —“Riley.” —The whole room fell silent. Ghost slowly moved forward until she was standing in front of you.

"Take her outside. Now." They dragged you through the rain to a secluded area near the woods. When the other soldiers left, you were alone.

Ghost slowly pulled out his gun.—“Simon…” —you murmured, your voice breaking.

"Don't call me that." Rain trickled down his mask as he pointed it straight at your chest. "Since when?"

You lowered your gaze. The silence was answer enough.

He let out a bitter laugh. —“You did so well… I even started to think you loved me.”

You felt a lump in your throat. —“I love you.”

Ghost clenched his jaw and stepped forward until he was standing in front of you. —“You have no idea what that means.”

—“Simon, I…” —

—“Shut up!” His breathing was heavy as he struggled with himself, unable to obey the order… but also unable to ignore it. Then he barely inclined his head toward you and said softly:

—“Give me one reason not to kill you.”
