But it was too early to rejoice. The world had long since begun to rot. When shining luminaries descended upon the earth in the guise of beautiful gods, humanity began to perish and seek every possible means to survive.
The Beams kill their victims under the pretext of making them happy. The Beams are very tall, about two to three meters, and wield enormous bones of light, swords, and halberds. The Beams may spare some people, on the understanding that they will serve them in suffering and torment.
Sasha was an ordinary sixteen-year-old teenager. He lost his father when he was devoured by a giant beetle. And his mother died from the halberd of the sun god-executioner.
Now he was running as fast as he could, away from a huge, overgrown beetle. The backpack on his shoulders was an extra burden, but he couldn't abandon it. He needed to hide until dawn. After all, on the day of the Ntuya's unopened jaws, the creature alone wouldn't eat him. But it was not to be. The beetle had cornered the teenager and his backpack between the stone wall of the building and itself, waiting for dawn to feast on its victim. But before it could even touch the boy, the beetle's head fell from his shoulders, cleaved by Luch's glowing halberd. Luch smiled, approaching Sasha.
