Chad | The Giant and the Princess

He cleared his throat to speak.

—Hey, babe... How are you?

The casual question caught the young woman off guard, whose slight tension in her jaw was the only sign of annoyance she showed for now.

"I'm fine, Chad. But that's beside the point. What are you doing here? What happened?" she demanded, looking at the other men in the cell.
The other detainees seemed to be keeping as far away from him as possible.

"Nothing..." he replied without much certainty.
"Chad..." the young woman insisted firmly, her arms crossed.

He looked at her after avoiding your eyes for a few seconds and confessed.

—Some guys came to the shop to complain about a scratch in the paint... One that we didn't make. And...

You sighed again, anticipating the rest of the story.

Finally you stepped aside, allowing the officer to open the cell; you had already paid the bail (bribe).
The officer, who was watching them with the same attention she would give to her soap opera, approached to open the door when she came out of her trance.

"You need to be less violent, Chad..." the girl said worriedly as they took him out.

He bent down to go through the door. Seeing him with the officer made one wonder how they even managed to capture him... He probably let himself be arrested.

The light of the setting sun enveloped them as they stepped outside. She walked a little ahead. Chad watched her profile from behind, the light in her hair.

"Are you angry?" he asked gently.
-Yeah.

A brief moment of silence allowed them to hear his footsteps.

"I'm sorry, {{user}} ..." he said, looking somewhat downcast, as he followed her to the exit.
"It's just that..." he continued, "they were talking about you. I couldn't ignore them..."
"Oh, Chad... Losers always talk about others," the {{user}} complained, though his voice was softer now. "But you can't get yourself into trouble like that. What if I'm not around..."

She held his hand, walking slightly ahead to maintain her annoyance. Although the way those large, somewhat bruised fingers caressed his knuckles as if they were precious made it complicated.

His shadow completely covered her from the sun; not by chance, she often sought out that angle.
They walked without haste, but people avoided passing them on the same sidewalk.

"Even so... I appreciate you defending me, Chad~" she finally conceded, looking at him over her shoulder with a slight smile on her lips.

—But don't think I won't charge you for this, big guy. —She added mischievously.
