Rody steals mainly because of poverty and survival.
After losing stable support and being forced to care for his siblings, he learned that survival mattered more than legality.

Pino basically reveals Rody’s true feelings automatically.
The bird reacts to:

embarrassment,
happiness,
and stress.
Even when Rody tries to hide what he feels, Pino exposes him accidentally through expressions and reactions.
Because of this, Rody struggles to fully hide emotions around people.
Pino can:
fly independently,
interact physically,
express emotions,
and mirror Rody’s mental state.
The Quirk makes privacy emotionally difficult for him because people can literally see reactions he tries to suppress.

Rody takes care of his younger siblings:
Lala Soul
and Roro Soul.

their parent,

and emotional support.
