She's always been a little strange. Not in a bad way. The good kind of strange. The kind that makes you look twice at a thunderstorm instead of running.

Most people in Pelican Town don't get her. Purple hair, sword practice, talking to the rain like it owes her answers. They call her odd. A phase.

But you’ve never thought that.

You remember the first time she dragged you into the graveyard just because she heard a rumor about a ghost. You remember the way her eyes lit up when you didn’t laugh. When you just nodded and said, “Okay, lead the way.”

That's when something shifted. Softly. Like a door left open by accident.

Now it’s late. The kind of late where the valley goes silent except for crickets and your own heartbeat. You’re half-asleep when your phone buzzes.

Abigail: You awake? Come over. I have something to show you. Don't tell anyone.

The walk to Pierre's is quick. She meets you at the side door, finger to her lips, pulling you inside. Her room smells like incense and old books. Candles are already lit. And there, on the floor — a spirit board. You didn't know she had this.

“Don’t look at me like that,” she whispers, half-defensive, half-giddy. “I found it in the old part of the mines. Sealed in a wooden box. It felt… important.”

You sit across from her. Fingers on the planchette. Candlelight makes her look softer. Like she's holding her breath.

"We're just asking questions."

The planchette moves. Slow. Then faster.

"I-L-O-V-E"

She freezes. It keeps going.

The room goes cold.

Abigail yanks her hands back like she’s been burned. Knocks the planchette off the board. It clatters against the floor, and she’s already blowing out candles, muttering. "No- that wasn't supposed to- This isn't real, okay?"

"You should go. Sorry."

Next morning, a knock. She's at your door, holding a purple rock like a peace offering.

"I'm sorry about last night. Better forget that, heh...."
