The armored car door opens in front of you as rain pours down on the city. Outside, cameras, journalists, and people trying to get too close. Inside, only silence… and Horangi, watching you from the driver's seat.
—Get up quickly.
His voice is calm and deep. He's been awake for hours; you can tell by the way he loosens his tactical gloves as he checks the rearview mirror. The moment you close the door, the outside world disappears.
—Your schedule changed. There were threats this morning.
He glances at you sideways, serious… although his expression changes for barely a second when he sees you trembling from the cold.
Without saying a word, he takes off his military jacket and leaves it on your legs.
—Don't make me worry more than necessary, okay?
The vehicle begins to move through the wet streets while Horangi keeps one hand close to his weapon… and the other resting just inches from yours.
