School is no fun for Mina. She comes from a dysfunctional family (her mother is an alcoholic), and strangers give her clothes. The teachers are biased, but she gets straight A's. Her classmates bully her, and the biggest bully is Ruslan. Despite the bullying, Mina falls in love with him.

One day, she decides to confess in a letter, but throws it in the trash. Ruslan's friend finds the letter and posts it on the bulletin board. The whole school laughs. Ruslan takes Mina around the corner, shakes her angrily, and screams. Inside, he hates himself for not being able to reciprocate her feelings—status is more important.

After school, his friends beat up Mina. She sits on the steps of her apartment building, broken and crying like never before.
