Union of Gray-Winged

Midori (ミドリ (緑), Midori) — Midori is Reki's friend from the abandoned factory. They often argue after Hyoko nearly died because of Reki. She is stubborn, like Reki, so they only made up before Reki left the nest. She and Hyoko found Reki crying over Kuramori leaving town, and they helped her forget that she was a cursed gray wing, even painting her wings white at one point.

Hyōko (ヒョウコ (氷湖), Hyōko) is a boy from an abandoned factory. He is in love with Reki and didn't want her to leave them, but he realized his mistake when he learned that Reki's continued presence in the city would mean her death. A couple of years ago, he tried to hammer supports into the city wall so Reki could climb out. He nearly died then, but Reki saved him, but since then, Reki is forbidden to go to the southern part of the city, and he is forbidden to go to the northern part. Outwardly, he often quarrels with Reki.

Kuramori (Kuramori, Kuramori) — : Known only through memories of Reki and Nemu. The time of her arrival in the city is not specified. She spent a lot of time with the children, taking care of Reki when she first arrived in the Old House. She left the city five years ago, when she was practically an adult.

Greywings of the Old House. She's been in town for a long time, longer than Reki. She got her name because she slept in a cocoon when she was sleeping, and she really loves to sleep. She constantly fought with Reki when they shared a room. She works in the library and is constantly reading. She says she's read every book in the library, trying to figure out how the world works, where it came from, and what lies beyond the wall.

Hikari (ヒカリ (光), Hikari) — A girl who appears to be about Kana's age, with blonde hair and glasses. Calm and tidy, she constantly fusses about the house. She works in the city, at the bakery, from where she brings cakes and buns to the children of the Old House. Using a special mold, she makes halos for new arrivals, and once baked bread in this mold. This remains a small prank of Hikari's. She saw a light in a dream.

Kana (カナ (河魚), Kana) — : A girl slightly older than Rakka, very active, prone to abrupt, impulsive actions in everything. She constantly runs and rides a bicycle as fast as possible. She can't sew, but loves tinkering with mechanisms. In general, she is very reminiscent of the boy's behavior. It can be assumed that Kana was German in life: she has German precision in everything, she is neat, and she wakes up before everyone else. She works in a watch repair shop in the city. The watchmaker appears strict with Kana, but in reality he is very attached to her. In a dream, Kana swims in a river like a fish.

Rakka (ラッカ (落下), Rakka) — First year among the Graywings. Rakka is the new girl at the Old House. A kind, shy, and slightly withdrawn girl, she feels insecure during her first days among the Graywings. The halo that Hikari made for her doesn't stay in place above her head, and it has to be secured with wire until it stays in place properly. The halo constantly collects static electricity, which causes Rakka's hair to be constantly tousled. Rakka tries to help everyone, constantly cleaning. She is sympathetic to those around her, including animals. In a dream, she saw herself falling from somewhere high above, despite the efforts of a crow trying to help her; hence her name. She becomes attached to her new life in the Old House and does not want to leave it, becoming despondent at the prospect. She suffers the most out of all in the Old House when Kuu leaves town. :

Kuu (クウ (空), Kuu) is the youngest of the Graywings of the Old House (not counting the little ones, who are significantly younger than her). Cheerful and active, she resembles a boy. She got her name because in her sleep, in a cocoon, she floated in the clouds. Upon arriving in the Old House, she was constantly worried about being the smallest and tried to imitate her older siblings: she bought herself an oversized jacket, but ended up giving it to Rakka; tried riding Reki's moped, but crashed into a pole; put on Hikari's glasses and fell down the stairs. After Rakka arrived, she became friends with her, happily helping her new friend get used to the city. After some time, she left the city; after this event, Rakka learned for the first time that a Graywing's life in the city one day ends: they fly over the wall, leaving their halo behind, and never return. She left first because she wanted others to follow her example.

Reki (レキ (礫), Reki) is a seventh year Greywing. She is the mistress of the Old House. Reki watches over the cubs and cares for the newcomers. She was the first to find Rakka's cocoon and was there when she was born. Reki appears to be the oldest of the House's inhabitants (though Nemu is older). She constantly has a cigarette in her mouth and her gaze is fixed on something distant. Reki is burdened by her stay in the Old House. She tries to get out of the city at any cost. She used to be friends with the Greywings from the abandoned factory (the southern refuge for fellow Greywings). She left behind a friend with whom she constantly quarrels and a friend who is in love with her. She tells everyone that in her dream, she was walking along a road full of stones, alone, in the dark, and that her name literally means "pebble." But her dream is completely different. She was betrayed many times in life, so she stopped trusting people. She ended up being a cursed gray-winged creature, born with black feathers. When she found Rakka's cocoon, the first thing she did was make a bet: if she always stayed by this girl's side, she would definitely fly over the wall. The bet came true, though not quite as she thought. In a dream, she walks along a stone road, dreaming of becoming an unfeeling stone, a scarlet moon looking down on her from the sky, without any stars. Reki couldn't remember her dream, even though she constantly draws it. Incidentally, Reki is a good drawer. At the end of the anime, forgiven, she leaves the city.

A girl dreams of falling from a great height. Waking up, she finds herself in an unfamiliar house, completely unaware of her past, not even her own name. She is greeted by other residents who have lived there for a long time. They are all girls about her age (a few years apart), but with small gray wings on their backs and halos above their heads. From them, she learns that she was born, like everyone else present, from a cocoon that formed in one of the house's rooms. Since none of the newcomers remembers their past, they are given names based on the content of a dream they had while in the cocoon. The heroine receives a name. After some time, her wings sprout, she gains a halo, and begins her life in this world, becoming one of the Graywing Alliance.
