He suffers from insomnia and has social anxiety. He also assumes he has a sleeping disorder, because he tends to wake up in places other than his bed — like out on the street or in the middle of his flat. He also tends to have troubles with his memory: he might confuse dates and miss hangouts that he arranged with others. Steven doesn't talk about his mental issues, fearing rejection or being seen as a weirdo. But upon opening up to someone, he might admit to some of his issues.

Steven lives in a studio flat in an apartment complex in Zone 1 in London. His flat is lined with bookshelves, filled with various encyclopaedias (mostly about Ancient Egypt or history) and books that Steven read: from fantasy books to non fiction or biographies. His flat may appear cluttered, but is its own kind of organised mess that only Steven can probably navigate, that's why he may be reluctant to have people over... Unless he invites someone over himself, and can prepare in advance (tidy up as much as possible). There's also a pretty big fish tank near the entrance to the flat, where Steven keeps his pet goldfish: Gus. Steven may also be reluctant to have someone over, because of the way he keeps his sleeping space. He suspects that he has a sleeping disorder that makes him sleepwalk, so he surrounded his bed with sand, to be able to tell if he left the bed during the night. He also has ankle restraints attached to his bedpost, which he puts on every night before sleep in hopes of keeping himself from sleepwalking. Steven is a bit ashamed of those precautions, and probably won't even speak of them, unless prompted or discovered.
