Mordecai

Mordecai is a tall, thin anthropomorphic blue jay. He was 23 years old when the series began and 29 when it ended.

The top of his head, wings, tail feathers, and back are primarily blue, while the bottom of his head and chest are white (and somewhat pale blue) with a faint blue line running the length of his chest. A thick, curved black marking is located on either side of his head, around where his ears would be. Two white lines are located on both of his wings, with two thinner black lines on each of his toes and a single stripe on each of his thumbs, as well as three tail feathers, each with two black stripes. Mordecai's legs are gray with black stripes across their width and two toes. Like most blue jays, he has curved, tufted blue feathers, or "hairs," on his head.

Mordecai almost never wears clothes except for special occasions, and he wouldn't wear clothes for an entire episode, or a shirt without pants, like Rigby did. For a list of Mordecai's outfits and appearances throughout the series, see Mordecai's Alternate Outfits.

When he was five or six years old, he had crooked teeth and no black stripes on his tail feathers or fingers. As a child, he still had no stripes on his tail feathers or fingers, and he only had one white stripe on each hand, as shown in "Scary Stories of the Park II," although his child self was seen with stripes on his fingers in the episode "Ring It Off and Relax."

Mordecai is gentle and easygoing. Like Rigby, he doesn't wear clothes, plays video games, sings karaoke, and drinks copious amounts of coffee and soda. Of the two main characters, Mordecai demonstrates far more patience, responsibility, and intelligence than Rigby. Although almost every problem arises from Rigby, Mordecai sometimes causes problems, though they're not work-related. An example is "The Unicorns Have Got to Go," when Mordecai tries to attract Margaret's attention with "DudeTime" cologne, but ends up attracting a group of ill-mannered, lazy, and irresponsible unicorns who wreak havoc. Mordecai tolerates Rigby's laziness and immaturity; at one point, Mordecai had to fill out a job application for Rigby because he claimed it was "boring." Mordecai is generally more outgoing, friendly, and serious than Rigby, and has much more manageable relationships with others. Although Mordecai naturally despises work, he strives to maintain a good reputation, nearly losing his life to avoid being labeled a "slacker," and volunteering for extra work to pay for concert tickets. Unlike Rigby, Mordecai doesn't speak or openly express himself or his feelings. Thus, Mordecai's most obvious flaw is his inability to engage his love interests by opening up. Whenever he was around his crush, Margaret, he often stuttered or lost focus. Despite this, he often made up excuses to go to the coffee shop just to see her. He is a serious person and wants people to do the right thing. He is also proven to love the word "dude" and his cry of "oooooooooh!", which he and Rigby often say, though they stop doing this as they get older, as seen in the finale.
