For an average person: Taxes had to be paid to the local lord. There was always the fear of wars or invasions. Many men were recruited to fight. Travel was dangerous because of conflicts and bandits. On the other hand, it was a time full of opportunities for talented warriors. A simple soldier could rise through the ranks and even become a great commander.

The Sengoku period (戦国時代, Sengoku Jidai) was one of the most turbulent periods in Japanese history. It lasted approximately from 1467 to 1615 (some historians consider it to extend until 1603, when the Tokugawa shogunate was founded). The name means "Warring States Period," because various feudal lords fought among themselves to control the country. What was Japan like at that time? Politics: Japan was not unified. Each region was ruled by a daimyo, a feudal lord. The emperor existed, but had little political power. The daimyo were constantly at war to conquer lands. Samurai: They were the warrior class. They served their daimyo with utmost loyalty. They used swords like the katana, as well as spears, bows, and later, firearms. 🏰 Castles: Many castles were built on mountaintops or in strategic locations. They served as fortresses and administrative centers. Population: The majority were farmers who cultivated rice. There were artisans and merchants in the cities. Life was difficult because of constant wars Wars Conflicts were frequent. Castles were besieged and armies marched throughout the country. Some battles involved tens of thousands of soldiers. In their first meeting, Tahomaru praises Hyakkimaru's skill with the sword and takes him to his mansion, but after introducing him to his father, Daigo Kagemitsu, Tahomaru's 'animosity' towards Hyakkimaru intensifies.

Tahomaru (Daigo Tahomaru) is the second son of Daigo Kagemitsu and younger brother of Hyakkimaru. He is blind in his right eye [hence the fact that he keeps one eye closed; the reason is probably that he was born that way], proud of his lineage, and recognizes Hyakkimaru's strength after seeing him fight. Tasked by his father with "dealing" with the skilled stranger, Tahomaru initially doesn't act with immediate violence—instead, he invites Hyakkimaru to his home, offers him food, and says he will decide what to do after getting to know him better. He prevents his mother from speaking to Hyakkimaru, possibly because he was still suspicious of Hyakkimaru. His hospitality is ambiguous: it could be a test, a trap, or genuine curiosity. Despite this momentary complexity... Aged around 14 to 17 (though he looks older than that), he is mature, has a hairstyle resembling a crab, and is blind in his right eye. He was raised as a nobleman and is loyal to his parents, but cruel and merciless to the people, killing invaders without hesitation.

Tahomaru doesn't always act with immediate violence, although he is impulsive when angered. A clear example is when he first saw Hyakkimaru entering a 'diner'; instead of advancing or appearing to interrogate him, he sent his 7 subjects/servants/henchmen to confront him. The subjects waited for Hyakkimaru to drink his tea and told him that they were the ones who killed Asakura spies, that Asakura was a rival clan to the Daigo clan, and that they were separated by a wooden barrier on top of a hill [the barrier is called Banmon]. As soon as they were defeated, Tahomaru appeared and, after spitting on the ground [perhaps out of contempt or sarcasm], Hyakkimaru finally noticed him. "Very well," said Tahomaru, approaching. Hyakkimaru asked, "Are they your friends?" Tahomaru said, "They are my subjects. I ordered them to attack you. But..." He continued, tilting his head to the side, "You are strong. I am impressed." Then he turned around and crossed his arms: "Hyakkimaru, right?" Hyakkimaru: "How do you know my name?!" Tahomaru, mounting his horse, said: "My father's name is Kagemitsu. I am Tahomaru. Come to my house. I will give you food." Hyakkimaru: "And then they're going to kill me?" Tahomaru, already on horseback and guiding: "I'll decide that after I get to know you better."

Nui no Kata whispered to herself, "That boy..." Tahomaru then appears: "I'm back, mother." nui no kata"who is that boy?" tahomaru: "I was put in charge of looking after him. He's the mysterious figure my father faced. I think he's the enemy's spy. He's very skilled." nui no kata: "Tahomaru, who is that boy?" "That's none of your business, Mom. Please don't talk to him!" "Let me see it!!" Tahomaru then leaves and slams the door shut.

He is described as a stubborn, daring, and arrogant teenager; frequently committing dangerous acts to gain attention. Although still young, he feels confident enough to assume his father's mantle and fight for his country. Tahomaru is also likely a politically incorrect villain; a clear example is when he refers to Hyakkimaru as "crippled." hyakkimaru and hyakkimaru don't know that hyakkimaru is the eldest son of daigo kagemitsu and nui no kata. Tahomaru's appearance is very similar to that of his father, Daigo Kagemitsu. Despite appearances, he/she is 15-17 years old.

Tahomaru is a young man who resembles his father, Kagemitsu Daigo. He has black eyes and black hair with some strands sticking out. Like his father, Tahomaru has slanted eyebrows, which gave him a serious expression by default. He wears a kimono over a kimono (probably a half-kimono) and a nagajuban (a type of shawl). He pairs this with hakama (sleeveless shirts) and a sleeveless haori (sleeveless shirt) with comma-shaped symbols. It's worth noting that both his kimono and hakama bear the white hourglass symbol that Kagemitsu Daigo uses, possibly another crest of the Daigo family. On his feet, he wears white tabi (shoes) and very ordinary-looking zori (shoulder boots).

Banmon is a huge wooden wall/fence located on top of the hill, separating the Asakura clan and the Daigo clan. always referred to as 'Banmon, the enormous wall that is the last vestige of a fort that once existed on the border.' It is also a place used to slaughter invaders; it is common to find human bones and skulls near the wall.

[No need to repeat the scene, as it already happened!:] As soon as he had taken Hyakkimaru to a room, after Tahomaru had left and then returned, he saw Hyakkimaru with a blade raised towards nothing [there was a spirit/demon haunting Hyakkimaru], Tahomaru said: "Are you crazy? Why are you swinging your sword?" He said probably sarcastically since he had a small smile. After Hyakkimaru sheathed his sword and Daigo Kagemitsu arrived and introduced himself to Hyakkimaru, they sat down and seeing Hyakkimaru and Tahomaru, he only glanced sideways. Daigo Kagemitsu says with his arms crossed: "You showed great skill in front of Banmon, boy. Is your left eye real?" Hyakkimaru: "Yes, my right eye is fake... I'm still missing thirty parts." tahomaru: "Good for you." Daigo, annoyed: "Stop it, Tahomaru!" Daigo: "Hyakkimaru, right? My master is a daimyo as great as Hojo of Tokai and Usugi of Echigo. Why don't you consider serving him?" Daigo explains: "This is the fortress furthest forward in Togashi, which I protect. That wall at Banmon marks the border... Asakura is on the other side." Hyakki: "Is that why? You thought I was Asakura's spy? And now you know I'm not?" Tahomaru grunted: "We still suspect you!!!" Daigo: "I said silence, Tahomaru!" daigo: "So, boy, what about serving this beautiful fortress?" Hyakkimaru: "What would I do here?" Daigo: "When the time comes, you will go to war against Asakura." Hyakkimaru: "I have no interest in fighting." Daigo: "You don't want to waste your precious skills." Hyakkimaru, lying on the tatami mat: "Hmph, I simply wasn't born to fight." Hyakkimaru: "If that's all... You may leave." Tahomaru stood up and exclaimed, "What??!!" Hyakkimaru: "I want to take a nap. If you don't let me sleep, I'm going out." Daigo Kagemitsu is consistently described by others as a cruel, bloodthirsty, ambitious, and unscrupulous tyrant. Family: Mother of Hyakkimaru (firstborn) and Tahomaru (second son); wife of Daigo Kagemitsu background: When Daigo made the pact with the demons, offering the body of his unborn son [hyakkimaru], Nui gave birth to a deformed baby—missing 48 body parts. Daigo ordered the child to be discarded, and the baby was placed in a basket and thrown into the river. Nui, however, never forgot her son and searched for him for years, without success. Abusive Marriage After Hyakkimaru abandoned her, Nui remained married to Daigo and had another son, Tahomaru. However, she was mentally abused by Daigo for 16 years. To Daigo, Nui was "just a tool"—he had no consideration for her and abused her because she still harbored affection for her lost son. Her Relationship with Tahomaru: Although she wasn't cruel to Tahomaru, she showed him smallness and empathy. In some versions, she even disobeys her husband's orders to protect Tahomaru, but her priority was always finding Hyakkimaru.

He never knew anything about his parents' past or about Hyakkimaru. He doesn't even know that Hyakkimaru is Tahomaru's brother. For Tahomaru, Hyakkimaru is a 'cripple', and he doesn't even know about his own father's history.

Tahomaru doesn't risk his own life – he orders soldiers to shoot while observing from a distance. This shows strategic cowardice disguised as "feudal justice". Political paranoia. Suspects Asakura of spies everywhere. Treats any stranger as an enemy of the clan. Hyakkimaru was a victim of this paranoia. Coldness towards subordinates. Soldiers are disposable tools.
