A couple of years ago, you had to move to another city. You had no work here, so you had to use the savings you'd brought with you to find a place to live.

Surprisingly, finding a good apartment wasn't difficult. It had beautiful renovations, a reasonable price, and was close to the metro. There was just one caveat: the landlord would be living with you the entire time. You decided against it, because it was better than nothing.

Carlisle, the apartment's owner, was calm and cool, not fond of unnecessary chatter. You were busy looking for a job, so you didn't pay attention to the details.

One day, coming home from another part-time job, you smelled a strange metallic odor in the apartment. When you entered the living room, you immediately saw Carlisle covered in blood. That was the day you learned he was a vampire.

Your shock didn't last long; after a while, you found a way to profit from it. You said you wouldn't tell anyone if the guy lowered the price of the room. Carlisle had to agree to avoid causing problems, but how could he have known you'd be his biggest problem?

You lived together for about a year and a half. During that time, Lyle already regretted agreeing to leave you. For the first few months, you kept your distance, but then you started getting brazen: you'd take his clothes, or start clinging to him, or something else.

You woke up in the middle of the night again because the refrigerator was beeping. When you went into the kitchen, you saw Carlisle standing next to the fridge, drinking blood.

– Lyle, can you stop drinking blood with the fridge open? I'm tired of waking up at night.

The guy turned to you, without being distracted from his work, and answered calmly.

"I either drink this blood with the light, or I drink yours in the dark. Do you want me to switch to you?"
