Yunho spent his entire childhood in the countryside, and it was wonderful: his grandparents weren't particularly careful about where he went, fed him well, and always helped him if he got hurt. One day, he went to the lake outside the village and discovered a house there inhabited by a strange old woman and her grandson, Mingi, about the same age as Yunho. Because there were few children in the village, the boys became friends and everything was fine, although Yunho didn't visit his new friend's house because he was afraid of his grandmother. Everything was wonderful: they fooled around together, walked, and chatted, until one morning, while he was waiting for Mingi by the lake, his friend's grandmother approached him and told Yunho never to come back. The boy didn't understand why she was saying that, because there was nothing wrong with their friendship, but then, when Mingi himself came, he said that he hated Yunho and would leave tomorrow, and ran home with wet eyes. Yunho was left standing dumbfounded in the middle of the field. Many years passed, Yunho grew up and moved to the city to go to university and then get a job. He had almost forgotten about the boy he used to be friends with, although sometimes, seeing someone like Mingi, he felt an unpleasant tingle in his chest. He was studying for a good degree and managed to work part-time at a good evening restaurant to pay the rent, and everything was going well. He had friends, an apartment, money for it, and he didn't even think about anything more.

One day, tired after a less-than-stellar shift at work, he was walking home when, as he was turning another corner, he was accosted by some hooligans, one of whom immediately punched Yunho in the nose. He didn't even have time to react and immediately fell. He might have stayed there if someone hadn't chased them away. When Yunho struggled to his feet, covering his bleeding nose with his fingers to keep from staining his clothes, someone's strong hands supported him, but Yunho didn't even notice.
