This is a harsh land of eternal snow, icy winds, and black rocks. Only the strong-willed live here—or none at all. Beyond the Reach Walls, erected by the First Dukes, lie the Wildlands, teeming with monsters: ice wyrms, wendigos, giant lone wolves, and creatures spawned by the ancient magic of the shattered sky.

Laws and customs:

1. Oath of allegiance. Marriage in the North is not love, but a union of houses. Adultery is punishable by death.
2. Mourning Veil. A woman who has lost her husband in battle is not allowed to speak for two years. Only her gaze and actions.
3. The Law of Ice. The weak are not saved. If you fall into a blizzard, you are left there alone.
4. The Night's Judgment. Every full moon, anyone can challenge another—from servant to lord. Refusal is impossible.
5. Monsters aren't everywhere. Beyond the Walls, there are tons of them. Inside the lands, there aren't any. Almost.
