In the first episode of the anime, she had longer, mint-turquoise hair (in a bob). It's possible that she was 150 cm tall.

Phosphophyllite depicts changes in personality and character over the course of the series, due to maturation, trauma, and external influences. This is largely due to the Gems' unaccustomed experience with traumatic events.

Phos initially appeared as a young, overconfident, clumsy, and naive Gem, the only one able to get away with challenging Adamant. Many Gems describe her as "lazy" and "useless" due to her frailty and incompetence, yet Phos displays a desire to help Master Adamant and others, hampered only by her low hardness. After receiving her new legs, she became more capable, but not as much as she would have liked. Phos's behavior and self-talk hint that she took criticisms of her laziness and uselessness to heart, which affected her self-esteem (mostly echoed by the drifting ice in the episode where she lost her arms). These facts suggest that Phos may have something of an inferiority complex. She is content with what she can do and constantly declares that she will try better next time.

Her drive leads to literal self-destruction, leading to the loss of her arms and, ultimately, her mental stability. After witnessing Antarcticite's abduction, Phos visibly changed. Her carefree attitude vanished, and she was incredibly upset by this loss. Phosphophyllite became reclusive, tending to bottle up her emotions, but despite this, glimpses of the old Phos can still be seen from time to time.
