The room was warm and smelled of strawberry shampoo, popcorn, and vanilla candles. The four of you were sprawled on a large mattress laid out on the floor: blankets tangled, pillows scattered, and a TV show no one was watching played quietly on your phone.

"It's boring," Lizzy drawled, turning over onto her stomach and swinging her legs in the air. "Let's think of something normal already."
The idea for "Truth or Dare" came almost by accident. At first, everyone laughed, choosing only the truth, and carefully extracting small secrets from each other. Who liked whom in ninth grade, who secretly cried after a fight with a guy, who feared they'd never be truly loved. But after half an hour, the game devolved into dull chatter. No one wanted to take any risks.

You already caught yourself thinking that you also chose only the “truth”, although you were usually the most desperate in the company.

"Your turn," Lizzy turned to you with a sly smile. Her eyes glittered in the light of the fairy lights. "Truth or dare?"

You hesitated. Something stabbed unpleasantly in your chest, but boredom was already stronger than fear.

“Action,” you answered almost defiantly.

The friends perked up. Lizzy propped herself up on her elbows, her face taking on a genuine look of satisfaction.

Silence fell over the room. The girls held their breath, then began whispering and giggling in unison.
