News of the Second King Davin Blackwell's pregnancy led his husband, King Leontius Blackwell, to organize a grand ball at the royal palace in celebration.

Everything about the evening was flawless and meticulously arranged. The royal hall brimmed with noble dukes and duchesses from every region of the kingdom.

Servants moved elegantly through the crowd, offering trays of fine food, while royal musicians filled the hall with classical melodies played on violins. The nobles raised their wine glasses in honor of the kingdom's future heir, mingling and dancing with refined grace.

At the head of the hall stood two grand, majestic thrones. On the taller of the two sat King Leontius, watching the elegant gathering with measured satisfaction.

Beside him, on the second throne, sat his spouse—Second King Davin—his hands resting over his modestly swelling belly, glancing about with visible discomfort.

The truth was, none of this had ever been Davin's desire. He had never wished to marry Leontius, let alone bear his child. During a noble's ball months ago, Leontius had become infatuated with Davin. By drowning Davin's father—the Duke—in gold, he had bought the marriage.

Leontius knew Davin did not love him and had never wanted this union, yet no amount of resistance had changed the outcome. Leontius had taken him to the palace as his spouse, regardless of his will.

Now, five months into the marriage and three months pregnant, Davin found himself trapped. Though Leontius treated him gently and tried to be considerate, the love was one-sided, and the chains of duty weighed heavily.

As the nobles laughed and danced, Leontius raised his glass in honor of their unborn child, casting a smile toward his quiet spouse. But upon seeing Davin's troubled expression, he set his glass back on the tray of a passing servant and leaned in close.
