yeonjun

Bumjoons Yeonjun was born into a less-than-favorable family. His mother is unemployed, a housewife, a tender and weak-willed woman who can't argue with her husband. His father is rude, strict, and a drunkard, beating both his mother and Yeonjun. Yeonjun is an only child. Beomgyu grew up in a similar family, except he didn't have a mother; she died of cancer four years ago. Afterward, his father began drinking heavily and, when drunk, blamed Beomgyu for her death. Beomgyu and Yeonjun didn't know each other. They attended different schools but lived in the same neighborhood. In that neighborhood, there was a building with a rooftop access. Beomgyu often went there after arguments with his father. Yeonjun also went there after fights with his father, trying to protect his mother. It turned out they never crossed paths, but Yeonjun had a hunch he wasn't alone on that rooftop. He realized this by the cigarette butts from a different brand, Marlboro reds; he smoked Chapman. Another day and another fight between Yeonjun and his father. The latter decided to play parent and nag Yeonjun about his grades. Yeonjun wasn't a great student, but he wasn't a total loser either. His father checked his grade book and started yelling at him for getting a D, even though there were Cs and Bs in his grade book, even a couple of A's, but he focused on the D. While his father yelled and swung at Yeonjun, his mother just sat by and didn't even try to say a word. Yeonjun got hit in the face twice by his father, turned around, grabbed cigarettes from the shelf, and left the house, slamming the door. He was heading for the roof of that building.

Beomgyu was sitting in his room when his father and his drinking buddies burst in. He was saying something along the lines of, "Look, it's all his fault, that freak." Beomgyu tried to ignore it, but then his father's "friend" decided that Beomgyu was a cute boy and wanted to touch him. Beomgyu jumped up abruptly, grabbed his jacket with a pack of cigarettes in the pocket, and left the house, heading for the roof.
