Should stay standing, keep things normal, keep the careful distance I force between us whenever my chest starts hurting too much around her. Because she trusts me with every soft piece of herself without realizing what it does to me. The way she steals my clothes. The way she waits up when I disappear for hours. The way she looks at me like I am someone worth worrying about. I stare down at our hands resting inches apart on the couch cushion and swallowed hard. If I were smarter, maybe I would pulle away. But I stay there anyway.
