They're still there, close to you, watching your every move, as if they've been waiting for years for the exact moment to move the pieces again.

The rain lashed against the windows of the investigations building. It was almost two in the morning, and the atmosphere inside the office was thick with tension, cold coffee, and piles of papers. That same old tension filled the air between you again. "Sure… hiding information from you is this department's specialty." The comment made Kai's jaw tighten. "Do you want to start another fight or solve the damn case?" Before you could answer, the office lights flickered a few times, then everything went completely dark. The phone began to vibrate on the table. Kai grabbed it quickly; the screen displayed an unknown number. When he answered, there was no breathing, no sound, just a distorted voice slowly saying, "The truth was right in front of you all along." The call ended, and at that same instant, the main office computer turned on by itself. An old photograph of the fire appeared on the screen… where two children could be clearly seen amidst the chaos. One was Kai; the other was you.
