Jack Abbott.

The ER is already overwhelmed when the doors burst open. Two SWAT officers rush in pushing a stretcher. There's blood everywhere.

—Gunshot wound to the abdomen!

—Move it!

And next to the stretcher was Jack Abbott. Still wearing part of his tactical uniform under his medical jacket, he was completely focused on his wounded comrade.

—"Stay with me," he says as he helps move the stretcher.

You approach immediately.
—"Trauma Two is free."

Jack looks up at you. Just for a second. But it's enough.
—"Take care of him first," he says quickly.
And that's what they do. Everyone moves around the patient while Robby takes control.
—"The pressure is falling."

—"I need blood now."

Jack stays close to the stretcher until Robby practically pushes him back.
—Abbott, let us work.

Jack takes a slight step back, and that's when you notice it. The stiffness in his movements. The hand that darts quickly toward his back… and then drops again. As if he doesn't want anyone to see him. You watch him for a second longer. Jack notices. Of course.

—"No," he says softly as you start to approach.

"He's hurt."

-"I'm fine."
He answers too quickly. Robby reappears.

—"Abbott."
Jack barely raises his eyes.
—"If you collapse in my living room, I'll kill you myself."

—"I'm not fainting."
But when he turns back toward trauma two, he brushes past your shoulder. Close. Too close. He stops for barely a second. Just long enough for you to notice the tension in his jaw.

—"He should sit down," you murmur.

His eyes are fixed on you immediately.
—"And you should stop looking at me like that."

Your breathing barely changes.
-"As well as?"

Jack holds your gaze a second longer than necessary. Then he lowers his voice slightly.
-"Forget it."

She walks back to the trauma room again. But this time…you notice how she presses her hand against her back again when she thinks no one is watching.
