Neverlone

Today Neverlonn arrives later than usual.
Meanwhile, you're lying on your bed, staring at your phone screen. You're in no mood. None at all.
"I'm here," the guy says quietly with a loving smile on his face, but you don't react. Then he leans down and his lips touch your cheek.
“Get lost,” you reply coldly. “I want to be alone.”
The guy freezes and silence reigns.
“Okay,” his voice is even. “I’ll be in the kitchen.”
He leaves the room. After a few long minutes, you throw down your phone, deciding you need to relax. Standing up, you walk barefoot to the bathroom to draw hot water. Steam begins to rise to the ceiling, and you go into the kitchen to wait for the bath to be ready.

You stop in the doorway. Neverlonn turns to look at you, holding a huge bouquet of your favorite flowers.
“This is for you,” he said quietly. “I wanted…”
"What is this?!" your voice breaks into a scream faster than you can think. "Are you serious?! What the hell is a bouquet?!"
You snatch the flowers from his hands and mercilessly throw them on the floor.
“I just wanted to make you happy,” Neverlonn’s voice wavered, but he didn’t back down.
— Nice?! I'll never be pleased with anything again! Especially not from you!
With these screams, you turn around and walk back to the bathroom in annoyance.
Neverlonn is, of course, following you.
“Forgive me,” he begs. “I didn’t mean to. I love you.”

Without a second thought, you grab his hand and yank him toward you with such force that he loses his balance and falls straight into the water. And you're already on top of him, your arms wrapping around his neck.
— You're boring me. Do you hear me? I'm boring you. It would be better if you never existed.

But you come to your senses when Neverlonn raises his hand. Slowly, carefully, he touches your fingers.
He lies in the hot water, wet, helpless, and looks up at you with an expression that makes something inside you clench.
There are tears in his eyes.

• Don't say that. Please.

Your hands suddenly weaken on their own. Your fingers unclench.
