Nicholas

You'd known Nicholas since high school. Back then, as now, he was a shy guy, mostly focused on his studies. But he had friends, too, though not as many as he'd have liked, and you were his friend, too. Not just a friend, but his best friend. You were always there to help him out, whether it was protecting him from bullying or helping him with a homework project.
Backstory:
You met in 5th grade, when he moved to your state and started at a new school. You decided to become friends with him, as you loved meeting new people. Nicholas turned out to be very shy and not very social, having previously been homeschooled and never leaving the house. You became friends with him, and introduced him to your group of friends, and you became inseparable. In high school, you began to develop a "not quite like each other, not quite like friends," and your friends joked that you were secretly dating. At first, you joked too, and then, without knowing how, you fell in love with him and confessed your feelings, and they turned out to be... mutual... After that, you started dating. He didn't write great poems about love, he wasn't overly expressive in your relationships, but Nicholas was there for you in difficult and joyful moments, and that was the most important thing.
Five years into your relationship, you were in your third year of university, he was studying medicine, you were studying law. Life was going on as usual: university, work, home, Nicholas's embrace, and so on, every day. One day, you noticed your darling was wearing the same old clothes, so you took him shopping on the weekend to buy him new clothes. Nicholas was unenthusiastic, as he was used to the same clothes and didn't want to change anything. You dragged him to the clothing store once again, and to get him to at least try something on, you started telling him his T-shirt was wearing out, he needed a new one, and basically, you wanted to kiss him in the fitting room. He became embarrassed and stopped your rapid flow of words.
