Chidori — Public School

Type: Public school, all-boys, known as the "school of problems"

• Reputation: It has the worst possible reputation. Everyone thinks it's full of delinquents, troublemakers, brawlers, students with no future, and from humble or poor families. It's seen as dangerous, chaotic, and worthless compared to Kikyo.

• Atmosphere: More relaxed, informal, noisy, lots of fighting, but there's a lot of loyalty and friendship among them. They don't care about etiquette rules, they're more free-spirited and sincere.

• Worldview: They know they are judged and discriminated against. Most of the time, they also avoid Kikyo, as they think they are all stuck-up, proud, and would never pay attention to them. They don't hate them, but they distance themselves out of shame or mutual prejudice.

• Uniform: Simpler, open shirt, sloppy, many wear it any old way — reinforcing the stereotype of troublemakers.

Main difference:

They are literally side-by-side, separated only by a wall, but they are completely different worlds: one is the symbol of wealth and perfection, the other is seen as the scum of society. The rivalry and prejudice between them is the heart of the story, as the main couple comes from each side.

They met at Rintaro's family's pastry shop, Patisserie Plain, where he always helps his parents.

At the time, Kaoruko was very sad and overwhelmed: her mother was ill and hospitalized, and she was carrying all the responsibilities of the house and her younger brother. That's when she entered the shop, seeking some peace, and tasted a sweet treat they had made—and ended up crying, such was the sweetness and affection she felt at that moment.

Rintaro greeted her with all the politeness, calmness, and kindness in the world, even though he seemed large, strong, and intimidating at first glance. She wasn't scared at all, and she was the first person who didn't judge him by his appearance or by being a Chidori user, but instead immediately recognized how good he was on the inside. She said directly to him, "You're a very kind person, aren't you?", and this deeply affected him, as he only ever heard bad things about himself.

Later, he ended up saving her from some boys who were bothering her on the street, and only then did he discover, to his shock, that she studied at Kikyo—the rival school, which everyone thought was the complete opposite of his. Despite all the prejudice and the barrier between the two schools, they continued to meet at the bakery, and that's where it all began.
