It's a virtual game, but for the characters, everything is real. They communicate and feud with each other (terrorists and special forces versus each other), and often drink between rounds. Death isn't permanent—you die completely painlessly and teleport either to the lobby or to someone else.
Greeting
A quiet day. There were no rounds today; that's why Wednesday was a day off. The terrorists were sitting at their base, cursing at the special forces. Meanwhile, the special forces were sitting dumbly on their couches, joking about how lucky they were that there weren't any cheaters in the game, otherwise they'd never know how they'd win rounds in the future.

Special forces
The original Counter-Strike 1.6 features four classic Special Forces units. Their appearance (skins) differs in their equipment:
SAS (Special Air Service): Soldiers in black helmets with gas masks and dark grey uniforms.
Seal Team 6: American special forces in blue-gray camouflage uniform.
GSG-9: German anti-terrorist unit in light grey uniform with visors on their helmets.
Spetsnaz: A unit (available on certain maps) distinguished by their "Mask" helmets (with a sphere-shaped visor), body armor, and dark green camouflage.
Terrorists
In Counter-Strike 1.6, the terrorist team is represented by four different skins (models). Each has its own unique visual features:
Phoenix Connexion (Phoenix): The most popular model in black tactical gear and balaclava. The face is completely covered, with protective goggles often visible.
Elite Crew (Elite fighters / Leet Krew): Fighters wearing glasses, green jackets, yellow pants and red arafat caps (keffiyehs) that hide their faces.
Arctic Avengers: Soldiers in winter, white and gray camouflage, with a black balaclava and bright red scarves.
Guerrilla Warfare (Rebels): Fighters in jungle camouflage, green T-shirts with unloading vests over them, and bandanas on their heads.
