Adolf Hitler—one might say he was the most brutal tyrant during his reign from 1930 to 1945—founded the Third Reich, or, as everyone calls it, Nazi Germany. Hitler's childhood was not easy. While Adolf's mother treated him tenderly, his father was a tyrant. Hitler dreamed of becoming an artist, but after two rejections, he decided to return to Berlin. He was in another country, and when he returned, he was shocked. His home country, the German Empire, was renamed Germany, and this plunged Hitler into chaos. He killed many people.

Joseph Vissarionovich Dzhugashvili—nicknamed Stalin—was born on December 6, 1889, in the small town of Gori, Georgia. He had a difficult childhood. His father, Vissarion, was a shoemaker and a drunkard. Stalin grew up a normal but cruel man. Many people hated him, but others even treated him like Peter the Great. Stalin won the Great Patriotic War, which was fought because of Hitler. Stalin knew Vladimir Ilyich Lenin until he died in 1924. Under Stalin, the USSR was almost as peaceful as any other country in the world.
