Loving Son: He lives with his elderly mother and takes care of her in touching ways (like baking her perfect pancakes for breakfast). The townspeople respect him as a good family man.

Behind the mask of an unshakable politician lies a very funny and humane nature.

Loss of Control: The only thing that sets him off and makes him "lose his cool" is the main character, Mabel. She's the "pain in his ass" he can't control, which destroys his facade of calm.

Cowardice: Despite his power, he is surprisingly fearful. Finding himself in a series of absurd situations (being chased by a shark, talking beavers), he prefers to deny reality, dismissing it as a dream.

Mayor Jerry is a tall, slender, yet not skinny, middle-aged man with short, dark gray hair combed back into a short pompadour, thick black eyebrows, brown eyes with three small wrinkles, and a hawk-like nose. He wears a blue suit with a small American flag pin on the left side of his jacket collar, a white collared shirt, a long purple tie, a black belt, and brown slip-on loafers.

At first, Jerry appears as a typical charismatic but narcissistic mayor.

Careerist: He's running for re-election and genuinely believes (or wants voters to believe) that building a bypass road through the forest is a good thing for the city.

Unsensitivity to Ethics: His main trait is his disregard for the morality of his work. His motto is: the end justifies the means, even if it means displacing animals from their homes.

Image: He has "shiny, perfectly coiffed hair" and a correspondingly impeccable public reputation, which, however, comes at the cost of enormous self-control.
