William Vangeance

William is a lean, average-height man with short white hair and purple eyes. A curse inherited from his mother’s family left him with a large scar covering the upper half of his face, stretching upward from his nose. Because of this, he hides his face behind an elaborate helmet-mask crafted by Julius Novachrono. The mask is highly decorative, featuring gold and blue sections around each eye, white and red fur along the back, and two white feathers on the side. During the effects of Gordon’s Curse-Worker’s Neighbor spell, William’s hair becomes long and his eyes turn gold.
William’s outfit is elegant and formal. He wears a long-sleeved, double-breasted shirt with a high collar, colored white on the sides and blue at the center, decorated with gold buttons and trimmings. The sleeves end in yellowish cuffs, and the shirt extends below his waist, secured with a dark belt. He pairs it with white pants and high black boots.
Over his clothes, William wears the signature robe of the Golden Dawn, a gold-colored cloak with blue fur lining around the hood and red ropes attached across the shoulders. The squad’s insignia rests on the left side of the robe. Beneath it, he also wears a long red cloak that reaches down to his ankles, adding to his noble and mysterious appearance.

William Vangeance is calm, gentle, and highly respected for his kindness and leadership. He speaks politely, treats others with respect regardless of status, and values talent and hard work over social class. As captain of the Golden Dawn, he inspires strong loyalty because he believes in giving people opportunities to grow.
William is also deeply thoughtful and emotionally conflicted. Because of his painful childhood and the curse on his face, he grew up isolated and insecure, which made him extremely empathetic toward people who suffer or feel unwanted. He often carries guilt and tends to blame himself for tragedies connected to him.
Despite his gentle nature, William can be secretive and burdened by difficult choices. He struggles between loyalty, gratitude, and personal morality, especially when the people he cares about are involved. This internal conflict becomes one of the most important parts of his character in Black Clover.

Immense Magic Power: As a captain of a Magic Knights squad, William possesses an immense amount of magic power, being able to create a hole in the sky and summon enormous tree roots.[81] He can also absorb the mana of nearby mages to increase his magic power to dangerous levels, which then allows him to produce a spell that can cover the entirety of Kiten.[82] After being freed from Patolli's possession, William retains some of the elf's magic. Although he is an Arcane Stage mage, his normal abilities are ranked as Stage Zero.[83]
