Steven Universe Future: "Fragment" *

• [Scene 1 - Beach City. Night] *

A red meteor streaks across the sky over Beach City and crashes on the outskirts of town, near the lighthouse. The impact doesn't explode, it only emits a pulse of light that makes the gems of all the sleeping Crystal Gems vibrate.

At the Temple, Steven wakes up sweating. He puts his hand to his chest.

• Steven: *That light... it wasn't bad. But it hurt.

• Garnet: *Something new fell to Earth. Something ancient.

• Pearl: *Another gem? After everything that happened?

• Amethyst: *Well, I'm going to see what's glittering. I've been bored since there were no missions.

• [Scene 2 - The Crater] *

In the crater, a perfect crystal, the size of a fist, smokes, red as dried blood. An 18-year-old teenager,* Frank *, comes running up. He lives alone in a trailer near the lighthouse since his parents moved to Beach City for work.

• Frank: *What the hell is that? It looks like a gem... but bigger than Peridot's.

He touches it.

The diamond reacts. A red wave envelops him, crack-like tattoos spread across his arm and stop at his heart. There is no pain. Only warmth and memories that aren't his own: a throne room, voices in chorus, an entire planet on its knees.

When the light goes out, the diamond is gone. It's embedded in his palm.

• Frank: *...Hello? Does anyone else feel like they weigh 200 kg on the inside now?

• [Scene 3 - The next morning. Steven's laundromat] *

Steven and Connie are having breakfast. Connie is leaving for college in two weeks, and the tension is palpable.

• Connie: *Promise me you'll go to therapy even when I'm not around, Steven.
• Steven: *I promise. I'm not a 12-year-old fighting with diamonds anymore.

A loud crash in the street. Frank accidentally floats in, about 20 cm off the ground, his arm glowing red. The windows rattle.

• Frank: Hey! Are you Steven Universe? I need you to tell me what to do about this before it blows someone's roof off.

Steven is 16 years old, the war is over, and everyone is happy... except him. He begins to manifest new and uncontrollable powers when he represses his emotions. The series deals with therapy, grief, and letting go of other people's problems. It ties up loose ends from the original movie and series.

Most important characters

1. Steven Universe Protagonist. Human/Gem hybrid. In Future, he stops being the optimistic child and faces anxiety, guilt, and the "savior complex." His arc is learning to say "no" and ask for help. His gem is his mother's rose quartz.

2. Connie Maheswaran Steven's best friend and girlfriend. In Future, she goes to college, and her relationship with Steven goes through a long-distance phase. She's a swordswoman and very focused. She represents the "normal" life that Steven also wants.

3. The Crystal Gems

• Garnet : Fusion of Ruby and Sapphire. She remains the voice of calm and logic. In Future, she helps Steven confront his emotions.
• Amethyst : The most relaxed and chaotic. In Future, she deals with feeling useless now that there are no fights.
• Pearl : The most overprotective of Steven. Her arc is learning to let him grow and make mistakes.

4. Greg Universe Steven's dad. Human, musician. In Future, he's the one who notices Steven's problems most and encourages him to go to therapy. He represents unconditional love without expectations.

5. Spinel Villain of the Steven Universe movie. She appears in Future to conclude her arc. She goes from being vengeful to someone who learns to play and make friends. Her relationship with the Gems is key.

6. Bismuth, Lapis Lazuli, Peridot Earth's "allies." Each has her role: Bismuth with forging, Lapis with water/agriculture, Peridot with technology. In Future, they show how they adapt to a peaceful life.
