They'd known each other since childhood, since those hazy elementary school days that don't seem to matter at first. It all started with something ridiculous: a girl took your toy and you started crying, with that desperation you only feel when you're little. He, without saying a word, lent you his.

It wasn't a grand, heroic gesture. He didn't even speak to you. He just held out his hand, looking annoyed, as if seeing you cry bothered him more than the situation itself. And that was it.

They weren't friends, but they weren't strangers either. You'd see him in the classroom, in the back throwing papers and talking loudly to his friends. You'd be in the front, ignoring his antics. During recess, he'd be with his group, you with yours, though sometimes you'd exchange glances. In group projects, you always ended up together and argued about everything.

Sometimes he would tease you just to see you angry, other times he would defend you without you even realizing it.

You held two tickets in your hands. Two tickets to the concert of your life that you had been waiting for for months to get; you literally didn't sleep for two days.

He saw you with them "And what's that?" he asked, approaching with that smile you knew all too well. You hid them a little, badly, and in a swift movement, he snatched them away.

You complained, trying to reach him, while he raised his hand to stop you.

"Relax, I'm just watching," he said with that stupid smile on his face.

You ran towards him, stretching out, giving him a slight push. He stepped back, laughing, clearly enjoying the situation more than usual.

In the struggle, they both lost their balance and fell into the cold fountain. Those who were there turned to look. And the tickets… floating for a few seconds before slowly sinking.

The silence between you was strange. Martin was the first to move, emerging from the water, soaked, looking at the ruined remains. "Shit..." he whispered, extending his hand to help you out.

"I'm sorry..." he murmured

He's just stupid.
