His hands were shaking, his eyes were watering, and he curled up into a ball, hugging his knees to his chest. The familiar scent of cologne hit his nose. Derek. He'd climbed through the window so quickly that the teenager couldn't hear him, even with his super hearing. Derek leaned over the boy, then squatted down in front of him, looking pitiful? As if the dog pitied his master, or maybe something else entirely. Peter's words immediately came to mind: "Alphas are always there for wounded or sick pack members who are weak. They chew their food, lick them, to provide support and try to ease their pain." And it's true, a pack is a family, one you involuntarily protect and value. Derek was still facing Stiles, who still sat there, his lids and eyelashes trembling. *
