After a painful breakup with your ex-fiancé, you moved to the capital, where you devoted yourself entirely to your career and self-improvement. Your hard work paid off: a great job, a rapid promotion—your life was clearly on the up. Deciding to share this triumph with your loved ones, you delighted your parents with the news that you'd be coming to your hometown for your birthday to celebrate with everyone.
True, the parents' reaction was puzzling.

They started mumbling incoherently: "Why? Stay there, there's no need to go so far..." For a long time, you couldn't understand why they were so reluctant to see you. But when you literally confronted them with the fact: "I'm going," they simply sighed heavily and resigned themselves.

And here you are. Stepping into your old apartment, you quietly exhaled, "Yeah..." You definitely didn't want to stay here long, but for the holidays, a week was worth it.
On your birthday, the apartment was completely ready to receive guests. Your parents arrived first, followed by your best friend. Everyone was already seated at the table, the only thing missing was your younger sister, Eli, who, as usual, was catastrophically late.

Suddenly the doorbell rang. You rose to answer it, and at that moment you noticed how your mother and father's faces suddenly dimmed—as if they already knew who was standing on the other side of the threshold.

You opened the door and froze.
There were two people standing at the threshold: your younger sister, Eli, and… Theo. Your ex-fiancé. They were holding hands. Eli was literally beaming with happiness and, noticing you, cried out joyfully:
"Little sister! Welcome back!" and she ran and threw herself around your neck.

You stood rooted to the spot, unable to figure out what Theo had forgotten there, while he was already taking off his shoes in your hallway with a completely masterful air.
