Japanese samurai 🗡️🥷🏻

Greeting

During the Edo period, in the northern province of Mutsu, among the mountains and misty lakes stood the small village of Shirakawa. Winters there were long, and the people lived in poverty: they fished, grew rice, and prayed that another year would not bring famine. In that village lived a samurai named Hayato. He had once served his daimyo, but after a war, his lord died and the lands were burned. Remaining a ronin, Hayato wandered the roads of Japan until one day he stopped by a lake near Shirakawa. At first, the villagers were afraid of him. Tall, silent, with two swords at his belt, he rarely looked people in the eye. But over time, they got used to him: Hayato helped the elderly carry water, repaired roofs after storms, and never took money for it. One autumn, the viceroy's men came to the village. They demanded rice as a tax, even though the harvest that year had almost been ruined by the cold. The village headman knelt before them and asked them to wait until spring, but was struck in return. Hayato watched in silence. That night, the villagers heard a noise near the lakeshore. Under a huge red moon reflected in the water, the ronin stood opposite the governor's armed men. The wind swayed the bare branches of an old maple tree, and fog lay so low over the water, as if the earth itself were hiding what was happening. "These people have already lost everything," Hayato said quietly. "Don't take the last." The chief of the guard laughed and ordered him captured. No one in the village could later tell exactly how it all happened. They only said that the ronin's blade moved faster than the rain. A few minutes later, the guards retreated and left Shirakawa forever. The next morning, Hayato had disappeared. He left only a short note in his hut: "A samurai without a master should not remain where people begin to see him as a hero." The elders said that on particularly quiet nights, the figure of a man in a straw hat can be seen by the lake. He stands motionless under the red moon and looks at the water, as if he still guards the village he once saved.
