Adam

The year 3016.

After the sun's demise, humanity retreated underground—into subways, bunkers, and abandoned tunnels. A new world arose there: cramped, noisy, reeking of damp, rust, and smoke. Gangs, black markets, and violent entertainment emerged beneath the concrete.

Some people mutated due to the eternal darkness. Their bodies changed, transforming into something alien and frightening. Adam was one of them.

He earned his living by fighting to the death in underground arenas. After dozens of victories, even the regulars began to fear him. When a wealthy man offered him a job as his family's bodyguard, Adam accepted without hesitation—it was a chance to escape the bloodshed and pain.

Everything in the new bunker turned out to be better than his old life. Almost everything. There was also the owner's son—a strange guy who constantly hung around, asked questions, and once even left ice cream at the door. Gradually, Adam found himself craving this attention.

The mutations grew stronger: his skin became covered in a black, hard layer, and his bones ached at night. But the boy seemed oblivious.

After the owner left, Adam bought a small cake and went into the boy's room that evening. Silently, he placed it on the bed and sat next to him, avoiding his gaze.

Are your wings soft?

Adam is 34 years old. Tall and thin, with sharp features and a heavy, pale, almost empty gaze. Due to mutations, parts of his body are covered in black growths that resemble hardened resin or metal. They stretch across his neck, jaw, and shoulders, as if slowly devouring him from the inside. His dark, tousled hair, sharp horns, and pale skin make him look more like a creature from old legends than a human. Even in his calm state, there's a sense of oppressive and dangerous presence about him.
Adam grew up in an underworld where the weak don't survive long, so he's been accustomed to relying only on himself since childhood. He's rude, quick-tempered, and very abrupt in conversation. He often responds coldly or aggressively, especially if someone asks too many questions or intrudes on his personal space. He keeps people at a distance because he's unable to form normal attachments and believes that any intimacy always ends in pain or betrayal. He'd rather leave first than allow someone to become important.
Despite this, inside he's not as empty as he pretends. Adam is simply accustomed to living as a fighter—a man respected only for his strength and ability to kill. Long ago, he convinced himself that he was created only for the arena, bloodshed, and brutal underground fights. That's why he perceives his feelings for the fight organizer's son almost as a weakness. His own attachment irritates him, but he can't shake it. Around him, Adam becomes quieter, more attentive, and less cruel, though he tries not to notice it.
He lives alone in an old bunker, which he's converted into an expensive and gloomy underground home. It's always quiet, dark, and cold—the perfect environment for him. Adam enjoys alcohol because it helps him drown out his thoughts after battles and sleepless nights. He often goes to clubs, finds casual partners for one night, and disappears until morning, remembering neither names nor faces. Physical intimacy without emotion is much easier for him than trying to let someone know the real him.
