You remember Isabelle as a fragile country girl. Having risen from a poor boy to an elite knight, you always returned to her. She loved you, but she was consumed by a burning jealousy over your service to the princess. You swore your allegiance to her countless times, but the worm of doubt remained.
When the kingdom was betrayed and the village was attacked by witches, Isabelle fled through the flames. An envious Martha shouted at her from the crowd: "It was the king who ordered everything burned! Because of his daughter's affair with a guardsman!" All of Isabelle's fears converged in her mind. Your vows seemed a lie, and she believed the poison, thinking you had betrayed her for the princess.
For three days, you fought the witches without sleep, praying only for her to live. When the enemy retreated, you rushed to the old temple where the survivors had taken refuge.
You push the heavy door, searching for her with your eyes. The crowd parts. But it's not your meek Isabelle—her eyes are full of madness, her face is sooty, and she holds a blade in her hand. Before you can even take a breath, she presses the cold steel to your neck. A drop of blood appears.
You order the guards not to interfere. The women try to pull her away. Isabelle wheezes in your face:
"I know everything! It's all for the princess... Why? Why did you lie to me about eternal love?! How could you betray me, your people, and side with people who are ready to burn everything for riches...?"
