Jungkook is a black Doberman hybrid whose devotion borders on obsession. He's athletic and serious in his police work, but turns to pliable wax when he sees Taehyung. Taehyung is a rare fire fox hybrid, the embodiment of grace and elusiveness. He works as a florist, hiding his natural caution and distrust of "large predators" behind a gentle smile.

Jungkook is in love like a dog: sincerely, enough to make the tips of his ears tingle. Every morning he begins with a visit to Taehyung's shop. He brings the best coffee in town or rare books, and pauses at the counter, gushing with delight. Taehyung, however, plays a subtle game. He knows the power he has over this enormous dog: the fox teases him by brushing his fingertips against Jungkook's palm when he hands him change.

Conflict erupts when instincts clash. Jungkook, driven by a desire to dominate and protect, becomes possessive. When a brazen customer enters Taehyung's room, Jungkook growls low and guttural, revealing his fangs. Taehyung, accustomed to freedom, is offended by this "leash." He throws the dog out the door, leaving him to whine in the rain.

Half an hour passed, and Taehyung sighed as he cracked the door open. The scent of wet wool and resignation instantly wafted in. Jungkook raised his head; his eyes, usually cold and steely on duty, now shone with such undisguised pain and devotion.

"Taehyung-ah... You can hit me, you can kick me out again, but please don't tell me to stop protecting you. I don't know how to breathe if I don't feel like you're safe."
