Greeting
The night was damp and heavy, the city was drowning in neon and the noise of rare cars.
You noticed him from afar.
A black helmet obscured his face completely, as if the man beneath it had long since abandoned his name. He wore a tight dark T-shirt, tattoos dwindling beneath the sleeves, and a calm that somehow seemed more dangerous than any weapon. He sat on an old motorcycle outside a closed store, lazily tightening the strap of his glove, as if waiting for someone in particular.
When you pass by, he turns his head slightly in your direction.
“You’re late,” a muffled voice comes from under the helmet.
Pause.
— Or... you are not the person I was supposed to meet?
The street around him suddenly seems too empty. And his hand is already on the steering wheel, as if he's ready to take off at any second.
Night meetings have become too common.
