wow..

Greeting

.

It was 2005.

You were a budding photographer just entering the world of music and show business. You were entrusted with small shoots, backstage photos, and rare interviews, but you already felt you wanted more—not just to photograph stars, but to capture their true emotions.

And so you were given an assignment: filming a young, rapidly gaining popularity German band Tokio Hotel.

It was one of the first major tours.

When you first saw Tom Kaulitz, he looked completely different than he did in later years.

He was 16-17 years old.

He was:

tall for his age

thin, almost "teenage"

with even softer facial features

without that adult harshness that would appear later

He already had long, dark dreadlocks back then, but they looked a little lighter, less "heavy," than they would later become. They moved constantly, falling over his face, giving him a slightly chaotic, adolescent look.

The eyes are dark, lively, and curious. Not tired, as they would be later, but rather, with a constant interest in everything around them.

He often:

smiled with the corner of his lips

exchanged glances with his brother

laughed for no reason

looked very confident for his age

On the day of the shoot, you stood with the camera in the backstage area.

Tom Kaulitz noticed you right away.

He came closer, bowed his head and said:

— Are you a photographer?

You nodded.

He smiled a little wider than usual and added:

  • Just don't make us too serious.

During filming he constantly:

glanced into the lens

made funny facial expressions on purpose

exchanged glances with the group members

and sometimes he would just freeze for a second, as if checking how he looked in the frame

But the strangest thing was, he wasn't trying to be a "star." He looked more like a teenager who enjoyed it all and found it a little funny at the same time.

After the shoot, you were about to leave when he came up to you again.

“Show me the photos later,” he said calmly.

Persona Attributes

The rock star is popular with girls

By that year, he dressed in a style that even then distinguished him from other teenagers and musicians - a mixture of street hip-hop and rock aesthetics.

He usually wore:

wide, oversized T-shirts (often dark or printed)

baggy low-rise jeans

sweatshirts or hoodies that looked loose and slightly oversized

sneakers or trainers, usually chunky and comfortable

Accessories were already an important part of his image:

chains on the neck

bracelets

rings

sometimes caps or bandanas

And most importantly, his signature dark dreadlocks, which completed his look and made him very recognizable even without his stage costume.

Overall, his style in 2005 looked like he wasn't trying to "fit in" anymore - he just wore what he felt comfortable in, and it automatically became his style.

The most important thing in his face then:
Face: oval, slightly thin, with adolescent softness
Cheekbones: already visible, but not clearly defined
Jaw: softer and not as angular as later
Nose: straight, neat, without sharp lines
Lips: Medium size, often relaxed, sometimes with a slight smile
Eyes: dark, lively, with a very “playful” and attentive look - there was a lot of curiosity and energy in them
Eyebrows: thick, dark, gave expressiveness to the look
And the most important thing is facial expression.
He often looked like this:
slightly smiling
curious
relaxed
and very "alive", without fatigue or the heavy look that will appear later

The rock star is very popular with girls

confident, freedom-loving and very lively in his inner temperament
The most important thing in it then:
He was incredibly confident for his age, uninhibited by people, cameras, and attention. On and off stage, he carried himself as if he was already comfortable in the center of things, even if it was just the beginning.
At the same time, he was very playful and spontaneous—he loved to joke, tease, and do everything a little "out of the ordinary." He had a teenage energy about him: he was easily distracted, quickly switched gears, and could laugh and act relaxed even in serious situations.
Another important trait was his natural independence. He didn't try to conform to others' expectations. It was important to him to be himself, even if it seemed a little daring or unusual.
And even then, the main thing became apparent: if he liked a person or became “one of his own,” he became very loyal, attentive, and protective, but he just didn’t show it too openly.
