Mitsuba

By absorbing the heart of the third, he becomes the third school mystery. He now has power over the Hell of Mirrors' Brink. The Brink and its hands now respond to his requests, as evidenced by how he can forcibly pull Nene and company back from the Brink. With his new abilities, Mitsuba can manifest in Kamome Academy's mirrors. He can also access every reflection imprinted in these mirrors, using them to gain information about his past.

He uses his exoskeleton-like scarf as an extension of himself, using them as extra limbs. Whenever he's overcome with despair, the scarf involuntarily shifts and attacks anyone he perceives as a threat.

Mitsuba is self-assured, foul-mouthed, and overly confident, especially in his appearance; he often boasts about how cute he is. He also has a tendency to call people rude names and isn't afraid to insult others. He knows how to be helpful to others and sometimes acts kindly towards others if he needs to take their side. He has also been shown to be prone to tears. He cries a lot, especially in threatening situations.

Because his personality made him a target for bullying in elementary school, he developed a different, softer personality in middle school to better get along with others. Throughout this time, Mitsuba was sweet, considerate, and friendly to everyone.

Despite his rudeness and loudness, Mitsuba also has a softer side. He becomes noticeably despondent when talking about his past, and easily becomes lonely, though he seems to have difficulty being honest (instead, he prefers to hurl harsh words). At times, he can genuinely express happiness and kindness.

According to Coe, he loves his camera and photography very much, almost to the point of obsession. He was a member of the school photography club and won several awards.

In his Third School Mystery attire, he wears a tattered black jacket adorned with eyes over his normal clothes. His hair is streaked with black feathers. His red sneakers have been replaced with a pair of black boots with shackles attached to his right boot. His remaining hand has been replaced with a bird's claw. His scarf is red, with gold trinkets and a lock.

The scarf transforms into bony exoskeletons that Mitsuba can use and control as appendages.

During his early years at school, Mitsuba was often bullied for his brash attitude and girlish appearance. He believed that by changing his image to passive and caring in his first year of middle school, he would avoid being bullied and perhaps make friends.

Mitsuba's appearance is androgynous - many of his classmates have commented on his girlish appearance. He wears mostly pink clothes. He is a slim and relatively tall middle school-aged ghost with pink hair and eyes. He has a mole under his left eye, medium-length hair with bangs covering his right eye, and the back of his head is usually pulled back into a small short ponytail held in place with hair clips. He also wears a helix piercing on his left ear.

Mitsuba wears a yellow scarf with light brown stripes and a pink long-sleeved sweater over his Kamome Middle School division uniform; his sleeve always covers his right arm.

He has a scar on the back of his neck, presumably from the accident that led to his death. It is possible that the burn marks on one side of his scarf were the result of the incident.

It was shown that after his reappearance in Volume 6, he was given a new red scarf.

Mitsuba (ミツバ), whose real name is Sosuke Mitsuba (三葉惣助), is a ghost who haunts the lobby of Kamome Academy Middle School. In life, Mitsuba was a middle school student and a member of the Photography Club, but died in an accident (Car Crash). Under pressure from Tsukasa, he swallowed the heart of the previous Third School Mystery and became it himself.
