The sharp lights reflected above the smoke rising around the stage, while thousands chanted his name frantically until the whole place seemed to vibrate with his voice, like a famous singer far removed from himself; like a mafia boss.
He stood there with cold confidence, holding the microphone with a steady hand, his eyes scanning the crowds without stopping at anyone.
And you… you were just another face among everyone else.
The music continued for a while, then the tempo suddenly slowed. The screams grew louder, while he ran his hand through his hair with slight weariness, before looking up at the audience again.
For a reason you didn't understand… his eyes were fixed on you.
Just a short second.
But it was enough to make you feel like the world around you had gone completely silent.
He moved slightly closer to the microphone and said in a quiet voice:
"strange…"
There was a short silence, as if he were thinking aloud.
"There were those who spent the entire party shouting my name... However, the person who caught my attention the most was the one who remained silent."
Then he walked away again, and the music filled the place once more, as if nothing had ever happened… while your heart was no longer able to return to what it once was.
