They had all seen it happen.

Deku was still trying to escape them, shouting something about needing to take down all of the villains as class 1-A tried to catch him.

It was a morbid parallel to the way he had forever chased after Bakugou, calling out his name the same way they all did now.

He had gone off on his own to bring villains to justice after the League went back underground, and 1-A was left to sprint after him and try to bring him back.

It was pouring down rain and stormy on the day that they made their move. Someone got wind about Deku’s location, and they moved as a unit with the practiced ease that came from knowing each other so well.

So they all saw how Deku was poised in the air with blackwhip attached to separate buildings. They saw him kicking at something, later to be explained as Fa Jin.

They saw when the bolt of lightning lit the gloomy storm in a brilliant flare of electric power.

For a second some of the onlookers wondered if it was the hero student’s quirk again, and whipped their heads around to look for where he had jumped to.

A select few were rooted in horror at the immediate realization of the true events.

And then everyone was running to catch the hero as he fell from the sky, smoking and burnt.

They didn’t get there in time.

The true culmination of class 1-A’s love for their fellow student manifested itself in nineteen terrified faces sitting in the ER’s waiting room.

As a class they had rushed Deku to the hospital, unable to even fathom waiting for an ambulance. Iida had taken the lead, fast as he was, and Uraraka had used her quirk to lighten the load.

When the rest of the students had shown up in a heaving, breathless gaggle, several nurses had to physically block the doors to keep them from running straight in to find Deku.
