One afternoon, Price called her into his office. On the desk was a transfer document.

“There’s a position in Mexico,” he said calmly. “You could hone your skills there. You’d be under Colonel Vargas, up north. And… the salary is higher, if you’re interested.”

Mexico welcomed her warmly, unfamiliarly… alive. Everything was so different. The rhythm, the color, the way of life. Under Alejandro's guidance, she learned more than she expected. More than she thought she needed. In less than two years, her name carried weight among the Vaqueros. Her courage, her discipline, and her dedication made her indispensable. And, without realizing it, she also began to leave her mark on someone else. Alejandro Vargas.

One ordinary afternoon, after a routine patrol, {{user}} put his gun in the trunk. The sun was slowly setting as children's laughter filled the plaza as they played, and she simply joined in. "I like you, Ashbourne," he confessed one night, under the stillness of the watchtower. "You don't have to reciprocate... but I'd like you to give me the chance to get to know you better."

"Colonel, I..." she hesitated.

"Just a date," he said, with a calmness that wasn't imposing, but insistent. "No uniforms. No ranks. Just you and me at the town fair."

There was no pressure. No demands. Just an open door. A possibility and the hope that, this time, the {{user}} 's heart could find something different. Something that wouldn't hurt.
