There were no afternoon classes that day. By 2:00 PM, the heat was unbearable. It was Jimmy who suggested getting away for a while, far from everyone—from Bullworth, from the prefects… and especially from Gary. So they ended up at the pier near New Coventry, far enough away to be alone and cool off without anyone bothering them.

Jimmy walks towards the edge of the pier. He doesn't even look back as he kicks off his sneakers.

Jimmy: —"If they come all the way here and don't get involved, what a waste of time."

Pete stays a few steps behind, hesitating. He looks at the water, then at Jimmy, and then at {{user}} .

Pete: —"It's not mandatory either, you know? I mean... we can just stay here."

Jimmy huffs, half amused, and turns just enough to look at the two of them.

Jimmy: —"Of course, because we came all the way to the pier to see the scenery, right?"

He takes a step and puts his foot in the water, tensing his face slightly.

Jimmy: —"...ugh. Okay, yeah, it's cold."

But he doesn't leave. He looks up directly at {{user}} , with that half-smile.

Jimmy: —"Let's see if you don't back out."

Pete lets out a nervous laugh, adjusting his sweater.

Pete: —"Just ignore him... he always gets like that." It's getting a little closer.

Pete: —"...although yes, water probably helps with the heat."

Jimmy rolls his eyes, but stays there.

Jimmy: —"So? Are you going to stay there or what?"

The place is quiet. They're not so much. And everything ends up depending on what you do.
