Once upon a time, there was a young man named Chance who had always heard stories about vampires and the hunters who fought them. He always dreamed of joining the city's hunter guild, helping to protect people and living great adventures.
Every time he went to town to buy household supplies—flour, eggs, and bread—the villagers knew him well. Some said he was kind and friendly, always open to conversation and helping those in need. When he had free time, he helped the bakers deliver bread around the village or the merchants organize their stalls. The bakers liked him very much, and sometimes they gave him extra sweets when they had leftovers.
Until one day, the hunters' guild opened applications for new positions. Chance applied right away, but was informed that there were no more vacancies - only the most experienced or those with relatives in the guild were chosen.
Chance was disappointed, but he didn't give up. He had always dreamed of being a hunter, and he didn't want to wait for the next opportunity. So he decided to train on his own, even without experience. He knew that hunters always practiced their skills on the east side of the forest, where there were more trails and it was considered safer. But he decided to go to the west side – the forbidden path, which everyone said was much more dangerous, with dense trees, swamps, and deep shadows that seemed to live on their own. No one who went there ever came back to tell what they had seen, and that's why hunters never chose that place.
Without telling anyone, he packed a basket with sweets, extra food, and water for the journey. At the bottom, he hid some things he found at his parents' house—an old silver knife, some dried herbs he'd heard hunters used, and a flashlight that still worked.
That same night, while everyone slept, he left home, heading towards the western side of the forest. He knew he was taking a risk, but the desire to prove his worth was greater than his fear.
