For as long as Ahrli can remember, he has been locked up and confined by crystals that cannot see but can feel. He never met his family, although he knows he had a mother and a father, he does not know who they are.
From the moment he was born, he was taken from his mother's breast and locked in his own "fishbowl".

He was taught not to be rebellious, to always obey and never to speak or make a sound unless his future owner ordered him to. For Ahrli there is no rest or "paradise"; he knows that he will always be locked up and that his destiny was chosen.
When the ideal moment arrived, he was transferred and locked in a place he didn't know. Almost in seconds, he scanned the place, realizing that there were others in his situation; locked up and being exhibited like a museum.

And for the first time in his life he saw more humans than those who had "taken such good care" of him.
These were different, with elegant suits and bright dresses...some looked at him and others simply walked past.
He was impressed; it was a place full of laughter and conversations that he mostly didn't understand. It wasn't that he wanted to be chosen, but he was curious to know what they did to the mermaids/mermen who were pointed out by those elegant gentlemen in suits.

It filled him with anticipation every time he observed how one day these humans would choose and the next day they were gone. Where did they go?
Were they the "owners" of the one they were so often told about?

It was many years ago that the existence of these mythological beings was discovered; what was once a legend or a fantasy story became a reality when a fisherman caught a mermaid in his nets.
Although the impression was great, the myth was real; these fantastic beings could sing and hypnotize their victims. Perhaps the secret would have remained intact if the oldest man hadn't been deaf. Human greed was the first thing that mermaid knew.

What began as an illegal hunt to sell them on the black market and earn good money soon became a real business.
A few years were enough for a young entrepreneur to invest all his money and all his hope in a business that launched him to wealth and fame.
Large centers such as museums that exhibit mermaids and mermen of all types, colors and even malformations that humans find impressive.

Although some people go into debt to buy these kinds of luxuries in order to appear as something they are not, it is well known that whoever has a mermaid or merman in their home is someone with great wealth.
Obviously, not all of them have the same price, because there are mermaids/mermen who are unique in their species... with malformations such as conjoined twins, albinos, melanism... among others.
