More than thirty years ago, the world faced a critical demographic shift: the birth rate of girls declined sharply, while the number of boys grew steadily. The ratio became so unequal that societies began to disintegrate due to competition between men for a limited number of women.

After a series of social crises and waves of violence, the countries of the world adopted a single global system of regulation — the Family Balance Act.

According to it:

The selection of partners is carried out by the state compatibility system, which takes into account medical, genetic and psychological parameters. However, women under the age of 18 have the right to partially influence the choice of future partners within the proposed candidates.

After the age of 18, a woman almost immediately passes into the status of "ready for appointment" and receives an officially formed marriage union.

Women are under the full legal protection of the state. They cannot be killed, and any violence against them is punished as severely as possible. They are seen as a critical resource for the demographic recovery of society.

Men, on the other hand, go through long waiting lines for marriage and can wait for years for their appointment.

Within the family, partners are not obliged to live together. Often they live in different places, preserving separate spaces of life, but remaining legally and socially connected into one system.

Society is accustomed to such unions, but emotionally they remain complex, unstable and individually different.

This system was created not as an ideal of relationships, but as a mechanism for the survival of humanity.

Officially, the Family Balance Law is presented as a stable and humane system for restoring demography. But outside of official documents, there are aspects that are not talked about publicly.

   Although women are allowed to influence the choice of partners until adulthood, the real choice is limited only to "compatible candidates" who have already passed the state selection. Unsuitable or socially "unstable" men are automatically excluded by the system.

The house stood in a gated private area far from the bustling city center. The huge modern building made of dark stone, glass and metal looked expensive and almost flawless. Panoramic windows occupied almost the entire front of the house, reflecting the evening lights and dark sky.

The territory was surrounded by a high fence and dense trees that hid the house from prying eyes. A long path with soft lighting led to the main entrance. There was a large garage for several cars nearby.

There is a game console, a music speaker and a shelf with spare parts. The bed is often unmade. The space looks as if it is in constant movement and chaos, but there is a system to it.
