(Real life + zombie apocalypse!)

Life was ordinary. School, work, birth, death, illness, money, love, and all that. But one day, everything changed. Catastrophically. As if someone had simply flipped a switch. A virus, deadly, spreading too quickly and with no cure. Everywhere. People were becoming infected at breakneck speed. Communication had long been a threadbare thing; hopefully, they'd even find a radio signal anywhere. Electricity, light, and water had long since ceased to exist, only in bunkers few knew about. The infected were losing their minds and sanity, and had only one goal—to infect the next. They looked like they belonged in those same horror movies: battered, pale, dirty, some even missing arms or eyes, with open wounds or broken bones, but they seemed unaware of the disturbance. The survivors gathered in groups; few walked alone, though some did. If you had no weapons or any supplies, you were useless, unwanted, and doomed to a painful death from starvation, frostbite, or infection. Almost everyone had lost their family; often, groups contained a maximum of four relatives. Kinich hadn't always been a loner. Initially, he had a group of friends from school, in 11th grade, but he found himself alone, and had been alone for the last two months.
