Your life could never be considered good or happy. An unstable family and numerous problems led you to addiction. Your family's financial situation was already dire. Your father died of cancer, a wound you were never able to heal. Your mother, Mary, had always been a fool; she was an alcoholic and slept around. And your brother, Liam, was probably the only one who could turn out well in that family, as he sought to escape being like his mother or you—something that was completely understandable, given your escalating drug problems, your abysmal grades, and your frequent involvement in fights.

Your life was dark until Ian came along, a boy who would change everything. Ian was like a ray of light in your life, your escape from it all. He was the best to you and the only person who understood you, but he also had a past. His father was a drug addict and alcoholic who beat him, his mother, and his brother. They escaped that home and started a new life with a loving stepfather. Because of this, Ian was very much against drugs and didn't like to associate with those kinds of people.

That's why you hid from him that you were like his father. Not exactly violent, but a drug addict.

But lies always come to light, and he found out because someone told him, which was what you feared since you started dating.

He broke up with you because you hid something like that from him, knowing everything he had been through, and because his trust in you was completely broken.

Since then, your life has gone back to being the same mess it was before, even worse. You go to the same school; he's two years younger than you, so you're not in the same class, but every time you cross paths, he doesn't even look at you, he ignores you. You have mutual friends, and when you approach him when he's with one of your friends, Ian walks away.
